District 28 Conference – Members First: The Power of You

Register today and plan to join us in April for fun and fellowship at our first all-in-person conference since 2019! This year’s conference will be held at the Detroit-Dearborn DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, and will feature Distinguished Toastmaster Dr. Paul Artale as our keynote speaker. You’ll have the opportunity to:
- Learn from and be inspired by the district’s best speakers as they compete in our International Speech and Evaluation contests
- Mingle, jingle, sing, dance and wear your best costume for our Friday Fun Night karaoke competition after the contest
- Level up your leadership and communication skills in our Saturday workshops
Keynote Speaker

Paul Artale, PhD Accredited Speaker is an award-winning speaker, researcher, and author who helps organizations create high performance cultures through leveraging flexibility and inclusion. Paul obtained his PhD from Michigan State University where his research focused on the positive impact workplace flexibility has on employee retention. Paul was twice awarded the Wilson Fellowship from Michigan State University for his research contributions to work-life balance and new employees. These flexibility strategies are also detailed in Paul’s first book, The 2-Year Old’s Guide to Work-Life Balance, and in his upcoming book, The Spork Principle: 10 Essential Work-Life Strategies.
As a Toastmaster, Paul is the 84th Accredited Speaker in our organization’s 100 year history and the first and only Accredited Speaker from the State of Michigan. Paul is also a two-time semi-finalist in the World Championship of Public Speaking, including finishing in the top 25 out of over 35,000 contestants. Paul has been the featured speaker at multiple district conferences throughout the Toastmasters world. As a professional speaker, Paul speaks to associations and companies. His clients include Google, Ford, Mattel, Michigan Department of Transportation, Michigan Works!, Business Insurance and the Society for Human Resource Management. Ivory Williams – 4 Unbeatable Qualities
This highly interactive, educational and fun workshop is designed to highlight and promote communication and leadership skills, the hallmark of the Toastmasters International program. Attendees will walk away with easy-to-understand learning habits and immediately applicable techniques that enhance both the Toastmasters and outside-of-Toastmasters experience.
Charles Fowlkes – 10 Tenets of Effective Leadership
In this workshop, Charles Fowlkes will outline his 10 tenets of leadership and provide key takeaways.
Bill Liverman – Proven Strategies to Become a Published Author
Dr. Liverman’s workshop will help attendees to explore cutting-edge strategies that they can start implementing from day one of their book publishing journey.
Sandra Orland – Thriving on the Memberships Rollercoaster
Attendees will understand key areas to market their club, how to measure if invitations are working, how to uncover problems and how to collaborate with their club to develop creative solutions. Attendees will also be introduced to the Prosci change management tool ADKAR to help identify how to apply Moments of Truth to continue building momentum and value in their clubs and their personal development.
