BIRMINGHAM, Mich. - Birmingham Toastmasters' Club will celebrate the 55th
anniversary of its founding with a special dinner meeting May 23 at the Fox
& Hounds Restaurant, 39560 Woodward Ave., Bloomfield Hills.

 

Dinner will be at 6:00 p.m., followed by a regular club meeting at 7:00, and
a social hour at 9:00 with refreshments and a cash bar.  For further

The club will conduct its first regular meeting of the month May 9 from 7:00
to 9:00 p.m. at the Community House, 380 S. Bates St. in downtown
Birmingham.  All regular meetings feature extemporaneous talks, prepared
speeches and speaker evaluations. 

 

Birmingham Toastmasters' Club was chartered on June 19, 1951 and began
meeting at the Community House.  Charter officers were Jim Ford, president;
Richard Baily, vice president; John Hildebrant, deputy governor; and Russell
W. Haeger, secretary-treasurer; and James Hills, sergeant-at-arms.

 

Other Charter members were Richard Byers, Joe Cook, Paul Dutton, Stewart
Edgerton, Jim Fonda, Sheldon Hughes, Dix Humphrey, Evert Johnston Jr.,
Robert Lapham, Don Large, Donald Lennox, Robert McKenzie, Eugene Moore, John
Nelli, William Richardson and Paul Smith of Birmingham; Robert Chase, Glen
Christman and Beryl Salisbury of Royal Oak; and Edwin Kirbert of Detroit.

 

Birmingham Toastmasters' mission is to train interested individuals in
public speaking and organizational leadership. Members come from a variety
of backgrounds and occupations, including business and the professions.
Anyone interested in improving his or her communication or leadership skills
is welcome to attend the club's regular meetings, on the second and fourth
Tuesdays of every month, September through June, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at
