DESCRIPTION:Presented by Joel Book\, ACB\, ALB\, District Parliamentarian \nWhy do we need parliamentary procedure?\nRobert’s Rules of Order and parliamentary procedures\, in general\, are intended to ensure that a decision-making meeting runs smoothly and efficiently. Everyone’s rights are respected and no-one’s time is wasted. Such meetings are common in voluntary organizations like Toastmasters\, homeowners associations\, professional groups\, and anywhere else a group of equals needs to make a decision as a collective. \nWhat will you learn in this workshop?\nThis parliamentary procedure workshop is meant to be a “how-to” session on effective participation in a meeting run under Robert’s Rules of Order. \n\nLearn the structure and common motions of a meeting\nHear the explanation of what common motions are for\nLearn how to use them\n\nPre-scripted\, interactive exercises will be used to illustrate how motions work in the context of a Toastmasters club. Joel will review: \n\nHow to conduct a club officer election\nWhen the full formality of the rules can be relaxed and when they shouldn’t be\nTips on effectively chairing a meeting\n\nScheduled at Schoolcraft College in Livonia\, Michigan on Tuesday\, April 23\, 2019 between 6:00 and 8:30 pm. Plan to attend and learn what you need to know in order to effectively and efficiently run a meeting or a decision-making session at your club.
