I'm wondering how many of the D28 clubs have Facebook pages. It's really hard for me to search for them without getting every TM club in the world (literally) and it's challenging to just find the clubs in our area. I was thinking if we can make an effort to all "like" each other (don't we already?) and comment on one another's pages we would all benefit with greater visibility, traffic and hopefully - Members!! The Dearborn Dynamic Page is here: http://www.facebook.com/DearbornDynamicToastmasters Don't forget when you have 25 "likes" you can customize the URL such as ours is with the name of your club at the end instead of some gibberish code. Please share - I hope to be liking some of the other D28 clubs on Facebook soon! Cleo P.S. If anyone needs a push or some assistance starting a club FB page, I'd be happy to help Cleo Parker cparker at twmi.rr.com http://www.nuancebullterriers.com/ http://www.etsy.com/shop/NuanceDogFollies From tinatierney at cavtel.net Tue Jul 26 19:33:31 2011 From: tinatierney at cavtel.net (TINA TIERNEY) Date: Tue, 26 Jul 2011 19:33:31 -0400 Subject: [D28_community] D28_community Digest, Vol 62, Issue 2 In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Cleo: nice idea. Several of the people who have contacted me have set up Facebook Groups rather than pages. There are some differences between the two, but generally speaking I would recommend a Page over a Group. Another thing to be aware of is that Facebook is in the process of upgrading their Groups and your content will be archived in the next few months unless you upgrade to the new Group Format, so if you want to keep the group, Upgrade Now! Pages must be created by an official member of the organization that the Page is representing, there is no limit on the number of people who can like it and it is open to all Groups can be created by anyone, affiliated with the organization or not. New members have to be approved by the group administrator and there is a limit to what you can do as a group grows in size (the threshold is so high this isn't likely to affect TM clubs) Here's an online article that goes into depth about the differences, you can also put Pages vs. Groups into Facebook Help to get a shorter explanation. http://www.allfacebook.com/facebook-groups-pages-2010-02 If you're starting from scratch, my recommendation again is a Page, not a group. I'll like or join anyone's TM Facebook presence that asks. Hope to see you there soon! Message-ID: <1311802291.53415.YahooMailClassic@web161421.mail.bf1.yahoo.com> Hi D28! My name is Renata Burgett. I'm a new member to Toastmasters this year, and also the recently elected VP of Public Relations for Buckeye Toastmasters #121. ? I was influenced with a couple of external sources to join Toastmasters including the fact that my Grandfather was in the Toastmasters couple of decades ago. ? Growing up, I never really knew my Grandfather since he had?Alzheimer's disease?and passed away when I was 15. I wonder if someone could help me get into contact with someone from District 10 (Northeast Ohio). I would like to see if my Grandfather had ever competed in a contest or any records of his speech in the Toastmasters archives, or any information about his involvement with Toastmasters will help fill in the gaps. Your assistance would be much appreciated... ;-) Thank you all! Renata -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:
