From kholland at umd.umich.edu Tue Jan 9 11:04:26 2007 From: kholland at umd.umich.edu (Karen Holland) Date: Tue, 09 Jan 2007 11:04:26 -0500 Subject: [D28_community] Club Officer Training Opportunities Message-ID: <45A3BD0A.5070806@umd.umich.edu> Fellow Toastmasters: Q: What's an excellent way to gain knowledge regarding important leadership skills? Q: What is one of the most important things an individual can do to help those whom they are leading? Answer to both: Attend Club Officer Training! ALL club officers should plan to attend one of these Club Officer Training sessions, scheduled for 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: * Saturday, January 20, 2007, at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, Social Science Bldg. * Saturday, January 27, 2007, at Owens Community College in Perrysburg, Ohio, AV Bldg. Both sessions will include opportunities to discuss challenges within your club, seek advice, and network with other officers. This round of training will cover different topics than the summer training, so please plan to attend! We will discuss ways to help your club with membership building, club quality issues, and using the new Competent Leadership manual, and the spring speech contest season. For those of you who think you might be ready to take on new challenges, there will also be a presentation on District-level leadership opportunities. There will also be a special training session for speech contest judges from 8:30-9:00 a.m. that will feature several "Judges" who will explain how and why they scored a Sample Speaker the way that they did. In an actual contest situation, judges must remain anonymous, and are not allowed to discuss their scores with anyone. This session will be valuable to club officers, experienced and future judges, AND CONTESTANTS! Please don't let this chance to learn and to improve your leadership skills go to waste! Bring yourself and your CL manual (if you have one). Bring your fellow officers. Bring a list of three "best practices" of your club and three questions/concerns to discuss in the officer break-out sessions. Registration and Breakfast for this FREE event will begin at 8:00 AM, the program begins at 8:30 AM, and we'll wrap up by 12:30 PM. Advance registration is NOT required. Directions and maps to the training sites are available at: * UM-Dearborn: http://www.umd.umich.edu/maps_directions/. * Owens Community College (Toledo): https://www.owens.edu/about_owens/maps.html Additional information is in the most recent issue of "The Cornerstone", the District 28 newsletter, which is posted to the District 28 web site, www.d28toastmasters.org Check it out! This year's Spring Conference is already shaping up to be an exciting one! It'll be even better with your creativity and leadership skills behind me, so please join us for the first of probably three or four Conference Committee Meetings. Let's meet at the usual place: Kerby's Coney Island 25050 Northwestern Hwy. on the "corner" of 10 Mile/Evergreen. Wednesday, January 24th at 6 PM Other than leaders for specific teams, we need lots of volunteers! Perhaps you'd like to take a short shift at the Registration Desk... maybe you'd like to give the Toast to Canada (we'll even give you manual credit - Special Occasion Speeches)... and rumor has it we may need dealers for casino games, but nothing is official until after our first meeting. Please let me know if you plan to attend. If not, we can still use your help! As you know, the conference takes many people to become a reality. After the fun we had in the fall, we will be working especially hard to keep the momentum going! Please register early for the conference at www.d28toastmasters.org. {PayPal option coming soon}. Thank you in advance for taking copies of the registration form to your clubs. I'll also be selling ads again for the program and I hear copies of that form will be available online soon and at Club Officer Training on the 20th. I am really excited about the Spring Conference and I look forward to working with you. You are the leaders who will help me "make it possible!" Toastmasters International From kholland at umd.umich.edu Mon Jan 29 17:05:41 2007 From: kholland at umd.umich.edu (Karen Holland) Date: Mon, 29 Jan 2007 17:05:41 -0500 Subject: [D28_community] Toastmasters Club Officer Training - Another Opportunity! Message-ID: <45BE6FB5.7050604@umd.umich.edu> Fellow Toastmasters, If you missed both of the first two Club Officer Training sessions this winter, you have another chance! The next session of Club Officer Training is scheduled for Thursday, February 15, 2007, at the University of Michigan-Dearborn in the Social Sciences Building. The Registration Desk opens at 6:00 PM, the program begins at 6:30 PM, and we?ll wrap up by 9:00 PM. Club officers from any Toastmasters club, whether in Ohio, Michigan, or Ontario, are welcome to attend. Directions and a map of the UM-D campus are available at: http://www.umd.umich.edu/maps_directions/. (Or do a MapQuest or Google search for: 4901 Evergreen Road, Dearborn, MI 48128) The sessions and food are both free! Advance registration is not required, but in order to have a good estimate of the headcount for food and the handouts, PLEASE REPLY IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND. I'd really appreciate it. Bring yourself and your Competent Leader manual (if you have one). Bring your fellow officers. Bring a list of three "best practices" of your club and three questions/concerns to discuss in the officer break-out sessions. Remember: Research has proven that Toastmasters clubs that send their officers to club officer training are statistically FAR MORE likely to be successful. The odds of your club being successful, and of your members getting the most out of their Toastmasters experience, are much greater if your officers are trained. PLEASE don't let this opportunity to learn and to improve your leadership skills go to waste! Thanks!
