It's almost here! Another chance for Toastmasters to get together! We'll talk. We'll laugh. We'll eat. We'll learn new things. We'll buy stuff from the District bookstore! What is it, you might ask? Well, of course... It's Club Officer Training! Each incoming club officer for 2006-2007 should attend club officer training twice a year, once in June/July and once in January/February. Even if you've been a club officer before, you should still attend training. Sessions are scheduled for: * *Saturday, June 10, 2006, at Owens Community College (Toledo campus)* in the Audio/Visual Building. A map and driving directions may be found at: https://www.owens.edu/about_owens/maps.html * *Saturday, July 8, 2006, at the University of Michigan-Dearborn* in the Social Sciences Building (same as in the past). A map and driving directions may be found at: http://www.umd.umich.edu/maps_directions/ For both sessions, the Registration Desk opens at 8:00 AM, the program begins at 9:00 AM, and we'll wrap up by 1:00 PM. Please arrive on time and please stay for the entire program. It will be well worth it. (By the way, the sessions and the breakfast are all free!) In addition to the office-specific workshops, there will be segments designed to help your club with membership building and publicity. Another segment will help your club determine if it needs a Club Coach. (Yes, we'll explain what that means.) We'll even have special presentations on holding a speech contest, judging a speech contest, and BEING a successful speech contestant! We hope to see you there! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Upon checking the Toastmasters International website this morning, I see that LOTS of clubs have yet to submit their club officer lists for 2006-2007. I pasted the current "List Not Here" group below. Please review the list, and if your club's name appears, please see that your slate of incoming officers is submitted to TI asap. It's very important. TI needs it so they know who to send materials such as dues statements, proxies, award ribbons, and so forth. The District needs it so we can construct the District telephone directory. (If we can't reach you, how can we send new member leads your way? How will your Area Governor reach you?) Oh, and don't forget! The next *Club Officer Training* session will be held on *Saturday, July 8, 2006, at the University of Michigan-Dearborn* in the Social Sciences Building. A map and driving directions may be found at: http://www.umd.umich.edu/maps_directions/. The Registration Desk will open at 8:00 AM, the program begins at 9:00 AM, and we'll wrap up by 1:00 PM. Message-ID: <4496AED7.9070704@umd.umich.edu> Fellow Toastmasters: To those clubs that have already reached the status of Distinguished Club, Select Distinguished Club, or President's Distinguished Club -- Congratulations! For everyone else... Would you like to be able to say you're a LEADER of a Distinguished Club? You may be SOOOO close!!!! You may be just a few new members or an educational award (submitted by June 30) away from getting it! You may be asking yourself, "Why should we care about being a Distinguished Club? What's in it for us?" Other than the pride in belonging to a Distinguished Club, there are a couple of reasons. 1. A potential member who has visited several clubs is probably more likely to join the club that is Distinguished. Why? Because the Distinguished club is doing everything it can to support its members. 2. By turning in those educational awards and/or new members before June 30, 2006, you may not only help your club become Distinguished but you may also help your Area, Division and District become distinguished. How would you feel if your Area, Division or District missed being Distinguished by one educational award or fell one member short of the goal? This could be your opportunity to help others as well as yourselves! Remember the Rules of the Distinguished Club Program? To be a Distinguished Club, you must have EITHER: * 20 paid members as of June 30, OR * a net gain of 5 members since July 1, 2005 AND have met 5 of the Distinguished Club Goals: * 2 CTMs * 2 more CTMs * 1 ATM (any color) * 1 more ATM (any color) * 1 CL, AL, or DTM * 1 more CL, AL, or DTM * 4 new members * 4 more new members * Had at least 4 officers trained at both club officer training sessions over the year * Submitted Club Officer Report and one dues payment on time To be Select Distinguished, it's the same as Distinguished, except meeting 7 or 8 of the goals. To be Presidents Distinguished, it's meeting 9 or 10 of the goals. And remember, all new membership applications (new, dual, or reinstated) submitted before June 30 count in the District 28 membership Building Contest!!! (They also count toward the District's goal to become a Distinguished District. We're getting VERY close to reaching that goal, but we can't do it without YOUR help!) So, go out and get in a few more members, get manuals done, get club officers to complete CLs, and get Distinguished!!!! If you are not sure how many DCP points your club currently has earned, go to: www.toastmasters.org and look under "Member Quick Links." Click on "Club DCP Points" and type in your club number. Yes! It's Possible! to become a Distinguished Club for 2005-2006! Karen Holland, Lt. Governor of Marketing Lt. Message-ID: <44A273B0.3020504@umd.umich.edu> Fellow Toastmasters: District 28 is VERY close to reaching its goal of being a Distinguished District for the third year in a row! According to TI headquarters, we are one of only about 30 districts world-wide likely to achieve Distinguished status this year, so we should all be proud of this. However, we're not quite there yet, and I need your help! After the paperwork goes in on one more new club (and it will!), we still need to record about 15-20 more membership payments by this Friday, June 30, to earn Distinguished District status. That's where you can help! PLEASE! * If your club has a guest that would like to become a member, but you have not sent in his or her application yet, please submit it by Friday. (On-line, if possible, or by regular mail, if you must.) * Or, if your club has a "lapsed" member who has not yet renewed his or her membership, and they are willing to do so, please turn it in by Friday. * While you're at it, if you have a member who has completed an educational or leadership goal (CTM, ATM, DTM, CL, AL), please remember to turn that in, too! Doing these things will not only help _our_ District become Distinguished, they may also help _your_ club, area or division become Distinguished, Select Distinguished, or President's Distinguished! Also, so I can keep track, if you submit any member payments this week (June 25-30), please let me know by replying to this e-mail. The "final" report from TI might not be posted until mid-July, so this will let us know we've achieved our goal before then. Please help us to "Stretch for Success" as we reach the conclusion of the 2005-2006 Toastmasters year. Thank you! Karen Holland, Lt. Governor of Marketing Lt. It's true. It's also true that clubs for which officers are not trained are FAR MORE likely to struggle, or even fold. At my training session as incoming Lt. Governor of Education & Training (yes, I go to training, too!), another Region VI district leader reported that he found the following to be true in his district: * Every club that had _all_ seven officers trained went on to achieve President's Distinguished status. * Of those clubs where _none_ of their officers attended training, _none_ even achieved Distinguished status. You might think "I don't need to be trained. I'll figure it out." You might think "Training only accounts for one point in the Distinguished Club Program. We can skip that one and still be President's Distinguished." Yes, you could, but the odds of your club being successful, and of your members getting the most out of their Toastmasters experience, are much greater if your officers are trained. PLEASE don't let this opportunity to learn and to improve your leadership skills go to waste. The next session of Club Officer Training is scheduled for *next Saturday, July 8 at the University of Michigan-Dearborn in the Social Sciences Building*. Club officers from any Toastmasters club, whether in Ohio, Michigan, or Ontario, are welcome to attend. (Non-officers are also welcome!)
