From Guest to Member Contest

This membership contest is designed to introduce more people to the benefits of becoming a Toastmaster, and encourage them to join your club. Everyone wins because the new member benefits by growing both personally and professionally, and the club grows in number and becomes healthier. Don’t forget your Open Houses.

Contest Details

Members Prize: Free ticket to the International Speech Contest on Saturday, April 28, 2012
  • Bring a guest to your meeting and have them join.
  • Your name is placed into a drawing for each of your guests who join
  • Your name can only be drawn once
  • There will be three winners for this contest.
  • Each club president or VP of membership must forward the names of their club members who brought in new members, to Susan Stillman at the address below by April 4, 2012.
Clubs Prize: Free Club Banner For every four new members added to a club during the contest period, with the exception of newly chartered clubs because they are continuing to add members, a club is eligible to have its name entered once in a drawing for a new club banner. For example, a club with 4 new members – 1 entry, 8 new members – 2 entries, etc. One winner only! Questions? Contact Susan Stillman, LGM at D28LGM@d28toastmasters.org

Loss of a Toastmaster

One of our Toastmaster family members, Martin Lasser, passed away over the weekend.  He was a member of Rochester TM and Optimistic Orators, and a frequent speech contestant.  Further details concerning funeral arrangements will be communicated as they become available.

District 28 mourns the loss of a consummate Toastmaster, Pamela McKerreghan, who passed away on September 24, 2011. Pam will be missed by the Toastmaster community as a whole but so much more by the four clubs of which she was a member at the time of her passing… Dearborn Talks, Laff Out Loud, Optimistic Orators, and Shores. We have no details on funeral plans at this time, but will pass on any information we receive. Update: Funeral arrangements will be handled by:

Pam will be buried in Alpena with a private, family-only service. Her obituary will be in the Free Press and Detroit News on Thursday.

Welcome to the New Website

Welcome! Do you know what it’s like when you buy a new home or rent a new apartment? You’re so excited to spend the first night there that you set up the bed and bathroom and leave a few things behind. That’s exactly what we’re doing with our new website. The paint is still drying in some rooms, in others you’ll see a drop cloth on the floor while we decide on colors and curtains. For now, we have the most important stuff (conference registration and contest schedule) in place. We will be bringing more stuff over from the “old home” in the coming weeks.
